As human beings, we have evolved so much from the stone age to what we are today. We have come a long way from being simple to becoming flamboyant and extravagant. The same way, the concept of arranged marriage has also become a subject to metamorphism, but statistically in a downward direction. We have always believed in what our grandmothers advise about the bonding and our elders always had respect towards the marriage constitution. Whether, they are happy or not inward, what we now call as adjustments and compromises, the bonding between the couples was solely based on the family background and also for the family members. Yes, marriage is a concept consisting of adjustments and compromises by both the parties involved, but we have been witnessing compromises only by our grandmas. I am not highlighting the negativity, but that's what we have been listening from our elders.

When a girl reaches the "marriageable" age, society starts probing her parents over their plans to get her married. Due to societal pressure, the parents undergo immense stress due to which they start persuading their daughter without giving a thought on her choices and her goals. Even though, the girl voices her choices, the parents convince her to acquiesce and that her every choice would fall in place at the right time after the marriage. Even if she raises her concern about her fiance, why parents do not give importance to her concern! Why are they doing such an injustice to their daughter(s)?  We may think about society and their criticism when the girl states negatively about a boy and requests not to proceed with the marriage, but as a strong note, we fail to understand that society is just a facilitator who interlopes in every state of affairs and that it is the family's decision at the end for the sake of the girl's life. I understand that parents also experience pain and suffering during the course of the marriage, either financially or from society but it is also important to corroborate that their efforts do not go in vain.

The internet, higher education levels, cultural and economic globalization are also making the girl independent and self-sufficient to choose her choice of man. The concept of arranged marriage, which the parents believe in, has gone far behind and different from reality. This concept has evolved from being family-centric to being commercial. This commercialization has gone worse by stating the boy's family as an asset and the girl's family as liabilities and they start calling each other as 'parties'! Parents and also society should understand that late marriage is always better than a bad marriage. Let's stop doing the injustice to our daughter(s)!
